I am a mechanical engineer, working for ZOLL Medical Corpoation in Chelmsford, MA. In the course of my work I learned to use Visual Basic for writing all sorts of applications for the work I do there. When I started writing, I quickly discovered that there are informal rules that apply to writing, like most other creative endeavors, and realized that a program that could quickly scan my writing and look for things that creep in that I didn't want, would be helpful.
EditRight was born out of this need. With it's self imposed rules, I can run though sections of my writing and search for phrases, repeated words, run-on sentences, missing punctuation, word count and various metrics about the writing that help me target a style and reading level that I want to achieve.
I have it open whenever I am writing. It helps me juggle the 4-5 files that I keep open all the time when I am working on a book. It also help me compare sections of my writing to other sections to keep an eye on the consistency. In the end, it reads back my text, the final review of the "sound" of the writing that is so critical to good style.
I hope you like it and enjoy the help it will give you.
